Repairing an LCD blinking Samsung 206BW

Repairing an LCD blinking Samsung 206BW

Symptoms of the problem:
After about four years of service, this excellent 20-inch screen started flashing to the ignition. When I say blink, I mean that the image was displayed intermittently for more and longer to stabilize. Recently, we had to wait about 1 hour before working on it!
Tests:
I started by testing with a VGA cable (analog, usually blue socket) instead of my cable DVI (digital, generally white plug): no difference. So I started to incriminate the screen rather than the graphics card (I thought it was next computer that was located the problem). So I unplugged the computer screen and saw that the screen messages ("NO SIGNAL") as blinking.

Diagnosis :
When a screen starts flashing like that, it is said that "pump". Then incriminates electrochemical capacitors of the power supply. Capacitors falter are recognizable because they are inflated on top (when radial).

Removal:
To access food, you had to disassemble. Heres how to detail (I took lots of pictures voluntarily, do not be afraid, it is far from long or complicated disassembly will be very easy thanks to the photos.)

Very simple tools
Lay the screen face down on the table and unscrew the foot (3 screws)
Remove foot
Unscrew the back cover (3 screws) and lift it forward to remove it
Unclip left metal cover
Remove cover
Identity 4 tablecloths disconnect (I have numbered)
Disconnect tablecloths
Disconnect the cable from right
Lift forward the metal frame containing the motherboard and the power supply
Beware son underneath. To the next step are removed.
Disconnect the plug that connects the underside son
Separate power (top) and motherboard (below)
Its hard with your fingers. We must first support in the decision to unclip.
The clip that was preventing decision to disconnect easily
Unscrew the power supply (3 screws)
Remove the small metal strip
All 9 screws in the end of the dismantling
Then returns to inspect the power supply capacitors
Bingo: 2 capacitors are surrounded by red HS
Apparently no problems on those 2
Piece :
Remains to buy two spare capacitors. For added security (and not have to reopen the screen in 6 months!), I also changed the third condo, very close to the first two. In an electronics store from the corner that cost me P;240: the advantage is that my screen was repaired the same day, no need to get back another day (which is often galley, especially to go up the device!) and leave it open for several days (it takes up space, its fragile and it takes dust). I took 2 condo 1000?F / 25V and a 470?F / 25V (replacement in kind).

On the web, its easy to find components and it is much cheaper. But it takes patience and often add postage. For such a small order, its not worth the blow too unless you can not find an electronics store in his corner.

Repair :
A good soldering iron, to the best of the desoldering braid (I just had a pump, not very effective) and put it (if you do not have one available, it is cheap).

Soldering, desoldering pump, the power supply repair, and a soldering iron.

We Dessoude condos one by one
At this stage attention capacitors are polarized, that means they have a mounting direction. A + and -. On my PCB, the shaded side representing the - (see above photo). And on my new capacitors, the - is the side with the shorter leg. It also recognizes it as it is indicated on the body of the capacitor (with the gray band - - - - - - see the photo below). So when Dessoude, of watching the polarities of condo taken away and mount it again the same way.

And here the work: 3 new condos

Result :
Impeccable. The screen works perfectly again.

The test screen just after the repair and reassembly
Conclusion :
A good activist gesture for almost nothing new matter was again something new and it does not clutter the garbage with toxic e-waste. Not to mention the price of a new screen.

For assembly of the screen, a last small detail: we must not forget to insert the small tab of the little strip of metal in the metal frame.
